Siler, Virgil Francis (Pete), Merrill, Michigan

Passed away on Monday, November 8, 2010 at St. Mary's of Michigan. Age 98 years. The son of the late Frank R. and Anna S. (Letherer) Siler was born on October 5, 1912 at the family homestead on Swan Creek Rd. in Merrill. He married Julia Helena Hickson on November 25,1943, she survives him. Virgil was a lifelong farmer and also worked at Dow Corning before his retirement. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #02291. He enjoyed gardening and bragging about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving besides his wife of 67 years are two sons and two daughters; Peter (Sue) Siler, Alto, MI., Duane (Alice) Siler, Saginaw, Kay Siler, Merrill, Donna (Dave) Steadman, Houston, TX, 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Virgil is also survived by one sister, Martha Ann Kennedy, Saginaw. He was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Naessens, Beulah Dubay, and a son-in-law, Richard Way. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 419 S. Midland, Merrill. Fr. Prentice Tipton and Fr. Philip Naessens O.F.M. Cap will officiate with burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the W.L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, Merrill, on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary Service by the Knights of Columbus. Friends may also call on Thursday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the funeral liturgy. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the National Federation of the Blind or the Disabled Veteran's Association.
