Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010 surrounded by his family. Age 76 years. The son of the late Clements and Gertrude (Hilen) Richter, Bud was born March 10, 1934 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Mary Dwan, his loving wife of 52 years, on April 12, 1958. She survives him. Bud graduated from St. Francis High School in Buffalo, New York and earned his BA degree in Engineering from the University of Detroit. He was employed at General Motors Steering Gear and later owned and was President of J.R. Heineman & Sons Construction until his retirement 1994. Bud was a member and former President of the Association of General Contractors-Michigan, was an active member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and served on the Board of Trustees at St. Francis Home and the Michigan Laborers Pension Fund. He served as construction project manager for the Diocese of Saginaw, St. Mary’s Greenhouse, Garber Buick, Saginaw Children’s Zoo Celebration Carousel of which he was very proud, St. Anne’s Parish (Linwood) and Habitat for Humanity. Bud was a member of Knight of Columbus Council #4232 and the Serra Club. Bud enjoyed watching high school sports and coached several sporting events his children participated in. He loved spending time at his cottage in Linwood surrounded by his family. Surviving besides his wife Mary are four sons, three daughters and their spouses, Terry and Colette Richter, Saginaw; Jerry and Nancy Richter, Troy; Cathy Richter, Lansing; Tom and Michelle Richter, Caledonia; Fr. Tony Richter, Lincoln Park; Janet and Paul Dibley, Troy; Karen and Greg Popowitz, DeWitt; 15 grandchildren; a sister, Kathleen Smalley, Saginaw; several nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by a daughter, Colleen Richter, and by a sister, Marian Calabrese. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 2711 Mackinaw, Saginaw. Bud’s son, Rev. Fr. Tony Richter and Rev. Fr. James Heller will officiate. Private interment will take place in St. Andrew Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours at the funeral home. Friends may call at St. Stephen Catholic Church on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. There will be a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the church. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Eastside Soup Kitchen, St. Stephen Catholic Church, St. Anne Catholic Church (Linwood), St. Francis Home or St. Mary’s of Michigan Greenhouse (to provide free health, education and support to the community) or the charity of their choice.
