Beloved father and grandfather passed away Monday, August 9, 2010 at Covenant Healthcare Cooper. Age 85 years. The son of the late Leonardo and Carmela (Mauro) Poma, Vincent was born November 28, 1924 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was proud to have served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Army 31st Infantry (Dixie) Division during WWII and was awarded three bronze stars for heroic actions. He married Betty Tice on October 23, 1948. She predeceased him March 3, 1996. Vincent was employed at General Motors for 30 years until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of St. Josaphat Catholic Church, the Sons of Italy and the Flint Rock & Gem Club. Vincent enjoyed gardening, building and spending time with his family. Surviving are four daughters, one son and their spouses, Carmela and Ernest Slaybaugh, Pensacola, Florida; Anne Sansom, Saginaw; John and Janice Poma, Freeland; Catherine Tilot, Saginaw; Mary Poma, Saginaw; nine grandchildren, Kyrin Slaybaugh, Laura Blachek, Daniel Sansom, Elizabeth Moncman, David Poma, Steven Poma, Kelley Fifarek, Jeff Tilot and Jaime Spellman; 13 great-grandchildren with another expected soon; several nieces and nephews. Vincent was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Salvatore Poma, and by a special sister-in-law, Jean Ann Tice. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 13, 2010 at St. Josaphat Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. James Carlson will officiate. Interment in follow in St. Andrew Cemetery where military honors will be presented by American Legion Post #439. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at St. Josaphat Catholic Church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass.
