Pike, Jean J., Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 30, 2010, at the age of 88 years. Jean J. Wheat was born November 14, 1921, in Petoskey, Michigan, the daughter of the late Donald and Margaret (Lovett) Wheat. She received her Bachelor degree in education from Western Michigan University, where she was elected the first woman Class President. She taught school for several years in Muskegon and Detroit. She married Charles Pike on June 14, 1947, in Kalamazoo. They made their home in Saginaw for many years, where she taught music in the Saginaw Public Schools and taught sixth grade at Merrill Park Elementary School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Her husband Charles predeceased her December 20, 2002. Surviving are her daughter, Linda Pike Hickey; one granddaughter, Kim (Jeff) Roberts and their children, Hunter and Eliza; one grandson, Joe Hickey; a brother-in-law, Fred Stacks; three nephews; several grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Larry Hickey, a sister, Margaret Stacks, and one niece. Cremation has taken place. Private committal services will be held later.
