Piening, Lawrence George (Larry), Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away Sunday, February 28, 2010, in Saginaw.  Age 86 years.  Larry was born January 5, 1924 in Holly, Michigan to the late George and Ruth Kate (Vantine) Piening.  He married Mary Lentz. She survives him.   Larry served with the U.S. Navy during WWII and graduated from Albion College in 1952. He was employed for many years by the Social Security Administration, retiring in 1984.  He was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church where he was a long standing volunteer, most recently in the food pantry. He enjoyed gardening, watching birds, golf, bowling and made great applesauce. (The secret is to use a lot of different kinds of apples) Mary and he also enjoyed square dancing.  A long-time resident of Saginaw  he  is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary, a son, David, of Saginaw, MI. and a daughter Carol (Eric Schlorff), of Olympia, WA. Four siblings, Gerald, Kenneth, Ruth and Donna have predeceased him.  In accordance with Larry’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Dr. Robert L. Emrich will officiate. Friends may call at the Chapel from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the memorial service.
