Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away Sunday evening, August 22, 2010, at his home with his family at his side. He passed away after a brief illness at the age of 73 years. He was born March 30, 1937, in Saginaw, the son of the late Henry and Catherine (Dunlap) Pape. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School with the Class of 1955. He retired from Saginaw Steering Gear Plant 2 in 1995, after 30 ½ years of service. He was a member of the Saginaw Strokers Club since 1955. On his 21st birthday, he bought a 1958 fuel-injected Corvette. He restored the Corvette in his retirement, taking it to various car shows and winning numerous awards. His favorite place was his deer camp in Onaway, Michigan, where he enjoyed hunting. He had been a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Carrollton. He married Dorothy J. Cherry on February 3, 1962, and they celebrated 48 years of marriage this past February. She survives him. He also leaves two daughters, two sons and their spouses, Lisa and Phillip Abney, Carrollton, Kimberley Cherry, Chicago, Andrew and Cynthia Pape and Mitchell and Julie Pape, all of Saginaw; nine grandchildren, P. J., Nicholas, Lauren, and Rachel Abney, Bryce and Alyvia Pape, Austin, Allison and Adam Pape; one brother, Jim Pape, Saginaw; many nieces, nephews and their families; very special friends, Cindy and Jack Gruno, Jack Fletcher, Bob Schroeder, Ed Kartz, Al Benaway, Ron Zanner, and Jerry Jensen, and many more close friends. He was predeceased by one sister, Joan Stewart. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 545 Maple Ridge, Carrollton. Rev. Fr. Ronald Dombrowski will officiate. Jack’s family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and then at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
