Loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2010. Age 93 years. Daughter of the late Rennie and Lily (Cook) Bachand, Ruth was born August 24, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan. She was married to Edward Nikolai on June 28, 1958. He survives her. Ruth was a very compassionate, caring, hard working person who enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, baking and arts of many kinds. Surviving besides her husband Edward are one daughter, one son and their spouses, Tamara and Bill Lobsiger, Dimondale; Val and Nancy Nikolai, Saginaw; four grandchildren, Karen and Peter Mezitt, Mark and Kala Nikolai, Julia and Jeremy Karn, Paul and Joy Lobsiger; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mabel Ross; three brothers, Jack Bachand, Douglas Bachand and Harold Bachand. Ruth was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom, Russel and Norman Bachand. The Nikolai would like to extend a special thanks to Lutheran Home Care Hospice of Hope and Shattuck Manor for their loving care. Honoring Mrs. Nikolai’s wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2010 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty). Rev. Mark Buckert will officiate. Private inurnment will take place in Chapel Hill Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
