Meehleder, John C., Zilwaukee, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Covenant HealthCare Harrison. Age 79 years. Son of the late John L. and Dorothy E. (Brassem) Meehleder, John was born April 7, 1930 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Dorothy E. McKeage, his loving wife of 60 years on September 17, 1949. She survives him. John was employed at Saginaw Steering Gear for 30 years retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. He was also past president and member of the Zilwaukee Lions Club. John loved building and racing stock cars throughout the state and Midwest. John enjoyed winters in Florida and dancing especially the jitter-bug.  Surviving besides his wife Dorothy are three daughters and one son, Michael and Kathy Meehleder, Saginaw; Cathie Cantu, Coopersville, Michigan; Linda and Richard Smith, Fruitport, Michigan; Susan and Michael Maxa, Carrollton; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Meehleder, Saginaw; three sisters, Marilou Passhun, Saginaw; Betty and Joe Finelli, Bridgeport; Nancy and Ross Rousch, Zilwaukee; a brother-in-law, Bernie Letherer, Zilwaukee; several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Letherer.  Honoring Mr. Meehleder’s wishes cremation has taken place. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 511 W. Cornell St., Zilwaukee. Rev. Fr. Richard Jozwiak will officiate. Friends may call at the Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Zilwaukee Lion’s Club or American Stroke Association.
