McBride, Harry L., Saginaw, Michigan

Barbara P. Frost

Mr. Harry L. McBride was born October 3, 1948 in Jackson, TN and departed this life on Monday, October 18, 2010 after a sudden illness. Harry moved to Saginaw at an early age with his loving grandparents, Roy and Hessie McBride. He attended Saginaw Public Schools and in 1967, he graduated from Saginaw High School. Harry married his childhood sweetheart, Shelia Bennett, in 1971. Shelia and Harry were inseparable; where you saw one, there was the other. This was a true definition of the term "the two shall become one." From this wedded bliss, three sons were born: Armond, Harry Jr. and Jason. Harry received an Associate Degree in 1976 from Delta College. Harry was forever learning. He also attended bank-sponsored programs at Central Michigan School of Banking to further his career in finance. This was a two-year program. In 1967, after high school, Harry began his career at Second National Bank. It was briefly interrupted by a call to serve in the U. S. Army in 1968. After his discharge, he returned to Second Nation, which later became Citizens Republic Bank, where he worked his way up to the office of Assistant Vice President. Harry retired in 2007, but he was not ready for Shady Oaks yet, so he joined Independent Bank at Fashion Square where he served as Assistant Vice President until his death. We all know Harry was an avid golfer; to him, this was his greatest source of recreation. Harry attended Greater Williams Temple C.O.G.I.C., where he was a faithful member and served on the Deacon Board. Harry’s community activities are too extensive to list. He served on numerous boards and was a consultant to many. He was more than willing to lend a hand wherever needed. He was a peacemaker above all. Just to list a few organizations: NAACP - V.P. Saginaw Branch; SAAMBA; Healthsource Saginaw - Board of Trustees; St. Mary’s of Michigan - Advisory Board - Past Chairman; City of Saginaw - Police/Fire Personnel Task Force Member; Saginaw County Crime Prevention Program - Past Co-leader; Saginaw Services Career Paths - Past Chairman; Bridge Center for Racial Harmony - Board of Trustees, Past Treasurer; and Junior Achievement for Applied Economics - Past Consultant.
