Passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 18, 2010, surrounded by her family. She left knowing that she was well loved and is reunited with her husband, Robert, of 49 years. Violet Jane Clunie was born October 15, 1913 in Sweetwater Twp, Lake County, near Baldwin, Michigan. The daughter of the late Robert and Isabella (Young) Clunie. She married Robert J. Howie. He predeceased her May 10, 1985. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Daughters of the Nile, Shields Study Club, had served as Secretary of Thomas Township School Board, served as editor of the Shields School Newsletter and as an election worker with Thomas Twp. for several years. Violet’s greatest gift was her unfailing selfless love and devotion to her family. Surviving are one daughter, three sons and their spouses, Jean Ann Murphy, Merritt Island, FL; James and Sharon Howie, Merrill, MI; Dewey and Nancy Howie, Saginaw, MI; David Howie, Winter Haven, FL; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons and a daughter, Robert, Thomas and Harriette Howie, a son-in-law, James Murphy, four brothers, Robert, William, James and Thomas Clunie, two sisters, Isabelle Aird and Elizabeth McLaughlin. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road. Dr. Robert L. Emrich will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Chapel from 2:00-5:00 and 6:00-9:00 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Howie’s family wish to thank the staff and caregivers of at Hoyt Nursing Home, especially Second Avenue, for their exceptional care and concern.
