Grohman, Rita Marie, Freeland, Michigan, Formerly of Saginaw, MI

Passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at her home. She was 76 years old. Rita M. Gavit was born August 4, 1933 in Saginaw to the late Jennings and Grace (Guest) Gavit. She was married to Donald J. Grohman on January 3, 1953 in Saginaw; he preceded her in death on August 3, 1988. Rita was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. She worked for Baywood Party Store for over 15 years and volunteered at HealthSource gift shop. Rita never met a stranger and she delighted in those around her. She also enjoyed spending time at her cabin in Clare with her family and traveling. Left to cherish Rita’s memory are six children: Mark (Ann) Grohman, Laura (Craig) Richardson, Dan (Joan) Grohman, Marie (John) Kerns, Tony (Jean) Grohman, Paul (Karen) Grohman; 15 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Sonntag; three bothers: Albert (Madeline) Gavit, Jennings A. (Delores) Gavit, and Fr. James F. Gavit; many nieces, nephews and extended family. Rita was preceded in death by a son, Steven Grohman, and a sister, Anna Mae Hamman. Rita’s funeral liturgy will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Road. Rev. Fr. James F. Gavit, Rev. Fr. Steven M. Gavit and Rev. Fr. James Carlson will concelebrate. Rite of committal will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State) on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A vigil service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Rita will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
