Gillig, Thomas A., Saginaw, Michigan

Our loving son, husband, father and grandfather passed away Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper.  Age 67 years.  Thomas A. Gillig was born in Saginaw on November 17, 1942 to the late Alex and Sophia (Mehl) Gillig.  He married Frances Green on November 7, 1964 at Christ Lutheran Church in Reese, MI.  She survives him.  Tom retired from Saginaw Steering Gear after more than 30 years of service.  After retiring, he took pride in working as a caravan driver for MMR.  He was an Elder at Faith Lutheran Church and participated in Bible classes there.  He started the Spaulding Township Little League and was the park commissioner for 17 years.  Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing and any activities involving his children and grandchildren.  Tom is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Frances; two children, Patty Nichols and Thomas P. (Michelle) Gillig; four grandchildren, Nicholas (Kayla) Hockey, Sr., Shannon Gillig, Joshua Nichols and Taylor Gillig; one great-grandson, Nicholas Hockey, Jr.; one brother, Jack Gillig; a sister, Deanna (Arnold) Bekemeier; a sister-in-law, Beverly Gillig; his mother-in-law, L. Frances Green; many nieces, nephews and dear friends who have shared  precious memories throughout Tom’s life.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dan Gillig.  A memorial service honoring Tom’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church, 4241 Williamson Road, Bridgeport.  Rev. William W. Hessler will officiate.  Arrangements are entrusted to Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State).  Family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Faith Lutheran Church or the Gillig Family’s Wishes.  Please share your thoughts and memories at the church or through
