Gilbert, Fredric Paul, Hemlock, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, after a lengthy battle with illness. Age 60 years. He was born March 9, 1950, in Saginaw, the son of Nelle Arlene (Snyder) and the late Delbert Paul Gilbert. He graduated from Hemlock High School with the Class of 1968. He served with the US Army in the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He retired from General Motors after 33 years of service. He was a life-member of the Hemlock-Merrill VFW Post #7302, and was a member of the St. Helens American Legion Post #416. He loved spending time with his family, especially his beloved granddaughters. In his life, he enjoyed playing music with his father, family and friends, and was a member of the Hemlock Jets band. He also enjoyed fixing and rebuilding cars with his brothers, gardening and playing horseshoes. He married Cindy Wright on December 17, 1982; she survives him. He also leaves one son, Daniel David Gilbert; one daughter, Jessica Rose and Nathan Starke and their daughters, Mary Ann and Victoria Leigh; his mother, Nelle Gilbert; three sisters, two brothers, and their families: sister Della Gaul and her children, John Humble, Sarah Gaul and Hannah Gaul; sister Cindy and Paul Jacovitch and daughter, Heidi (Mike) Lind and their son, Jacoby; sister Jenelle Gilbert and special friend Gary Bartlett; brother, Gib Gilbert and special friend Connie Jerore; brother Dern and Marsha Gilbert and their sons, Kevin and Jeffrey; special nephew and niece, Lonnie and Heather Butcher; two great-aunts, Grace Hamlin and Mildred Blumke; several other relatives; his father-in-law, Wallace Wright; sisters-in-law, Linda and Jerry Steinman, and Sharon and Mike Seres and her son Kenneth Sahr; special friends, Ab Braley, Jordan Bartlett, Sarah Kehr, Sandy Nordmark and Theresa Charron. He was predeceased by his father, Delbert Gilbert, his mother-in-law, Fern Wright, step-mother-in-law, Cathy Wright, sister-in-law, Marianne Butcher, and brother-in-law, Dave Sahr. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 29, 2010, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 125 E. Saginaw St., Merrill. Rev. Rob Richards will officiate with military honors under the auspices of the Hemlock-Merrill VFW Post #7302. His family will receive friends at the chapel in Merrill from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday. Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at the Fairview Cemetery, St. Helen, MI, with military honors under the auspices of the American Legion Post #416.
