Passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at Brian’s House in Bay City. Age 87 years. He was born September 11, 1922 in Hemlock, the son of the late Richard and Dora Wilkins Erskine. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, serving in Panama. He engaged in farming all of his life. He was a member of Swan Valley United Methodist Church. He was also a life-member of the Hemlock – Merrill V.F.W. Post #7302 and served on the Honor Guard for many years. He married Arlene Schoof Bethke who predeceased him in 2001. He later married Mary Hare Yurgens Koviac on April 20, 2005; she survives him. He also leaves four children, Mary Lou and Chuck Austin, Vicki and Marc Lewiston, William Erskine, and Karen Roberts; five step-children, Barry and John Bethke, Julie Gath, Herb Yurgens, and Mary Fuoss; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Edith and Frank Wisniewski; sisters-in-law, Cora and Shirley Erskine and Alice Compeau; many nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his folks, three sisters and five brothers. Funeral service will take place 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2010, at Swan Valley United Methodist Church, 9265 Geddes Road. Rev. Rob Richards will officiate with military committal services under the auspices of the Hemlock – Merrill V.F.W. Post #7302 in Oakwood Mausoleum. Friends may call at the W. L. Case & Company Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and then at the church on Friday from 12:00 noon until the time of service.
