Passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Covenant Health Care - Cooper. He was 77 years old. Gilbert Lee Decker was born December 8, 1932 in Irvington, N.J. to the late Alice (Smith) and C. Clair Decker. He was married to Nicole Katherine Ergo on April 23, 1966 at Bethel Lutheran Church in St. Clair Shores, MI. After high school Gil served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Saginaw General Hospital in the Radiology Department for 23 years before retiring in January 1998. Since his retirement Gil spent his summers in Michigan and winters in Largo, Florida. He loved being with his family and many wonderful memories were made when they would gather together. Gil lived life to the fullest and enjoyed rides on his Suzuki trike, visits to the beautiful beaches in Clearwater, Florida, playing computer chess and cheering on his favorite sports teams. He attended St. Paul United Methodist Church in Largo, Florida. Left to cherish Gil’s memory is his loving and dedicated wife, Nicole; his daughter, Suzanne (John) McFay of Pinehurst, N.C.; his son, Steven C. (Jennifer) Decker of Saginaw; four grandchildren: Hunter and Langdon McFay and Steven A. and Erika Decker; one brother: Dr. Norman E. (Leota) Decker; one sister: Joyce L. Dancey; five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Donald Dancey; his nephew, David Dancey ; and his niece, Sheri Decker. Gil’s funeral service will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Deisler Funeral Home. Hank Messing will officiate. Burial and Military Honors will take place at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Denton Township Cemetery, Prudenville, MI. Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State) on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of his service.
