Passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System. He was 84 years old. Grover Davis was born on August 29, 1926 in Florida to the late Oren G. and Bessie (Falk) Davis. He was married to Caroline Ann Cobb in 1947 in Saginaw; she preceded him in death on August 2, 1982. He later married Mary Ann LaPorte in March 1989; she preceded him in death in 1993. Grover graduated from Arthur Hill High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. Grover loved spending time at his cottage on Jose Lake; and enjoyed deer hunting with his son, sons-in-law’s, grandson and friends. He cherished the times he was able to spend with his family. Surviving are four children: Mindy Sue (Richard) Moeller of Ypsilanti, Peggy Ann (Larry) Papin of Ann Arbor, April Lynn (Cliff) Poppel of Springboro, OH, Scott Patrick (Cathy) Davis of Mt. Prospect, IL; 6 grandchildren: Sam Grover Duncan, Caroline Papin, Denise (Chris) Payne, Katharine and Sarah Poppel, and Leslie and Jeremy Davis; one brother, James (Patricia) Davis, seven step-children: Larry (Tiger), John, Dean and Joe Laporte. Renee Bell, Cindy Wilson, and Teresa Pringle. Also surviving are many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his two brothers: Jack and Dick Davis. Grover’s Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State). Military Honors will follow at the cemetery conducted under the auspices of VFW Post #1859. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday, October 15, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to VA Ann Arbor Healthcare Systems Palliative Care Unit.
