Loving mother and grandmother passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Centre. Age 79 years. Daughter of the late Earl and Bernice Smith, Elaine was born May 13, 1931 in Mecosta, Michigan. She was married to Edward J. Challenger. Elaine was employed at McDonald Dairy in Bay City, M.E.S.C. of Michigan and the Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center. Elaine was a member of State Street United Methodist Church and the Saginaw Senior Center. She loved needlepoint, crocheting, hooking rugs and especially her grandchildren. Surviving are one daughter and one son, Katherine Challenger and James Challenger; three grandchildren, Mark Andrew Stabek and his fiancée, Trisha Kocks, Noah Stabek, and Jeremy Challenger; two great grandchildren, Amber and Jaime; her sister, Maxine Seaton; her brothers, Wesley (JoAnn) Smith and Jack (Dee) Smith; her sister-in-law, Namhi (Nancy) Smith; many nieces and nephews. Elaine was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Smith. Funeral Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty). Rev. Elias Mumbriro will officiate. Honoring Mrs. Challenger’s wishes cremation will follow. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to until time of service.
