Butterfield, Donald Lee, Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away Monday evening, September 27, 2010, at Luther Manor. Age 91 years. He was born May 8, 1919, in Saginaw, graduating from Saginaw High School with the Class of 1936. He served with the US Army in World War II as a cartographer. While in the service, he attended the University of Kentucky. He later received his Mechanical Engineering degree. He had been employed by Saginaw Products Corporation and later retired from Peet Packing Company in Chesaning after many years of service. He was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, where he was currently Clerk of the Church, and had also served as Reader. He was a member of the Chesaning Rotary Club, the Safety Council, the Saginaw Retired Men’s Club, volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, and was a founding member and long-time volunteer of the youth hockey program in Saginaw. He was an avid Bridge player. Mr. and Mrs. Butterfield traveled extensively, going to nearly each of the 50 States. They were avid bird watchers, and he enjoyed feeding the birds at home. They were also active members of the Chippewa Nature Center, and enjoyed bird and nature walks, and field trips with the club. He was formerly a member of the Audubon Society. He married Margaret R. Healey on October 30, 1942; she survives him. He also leaves one son and daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, Randall Lee and Penny L. Butterfield, and Shannan and Randall Lee “R.J.” Butterfield, Jr. He also leaves many dear friends. He was predeceased by his father, Lee Butterfield, his mother and step-father, Wavia (Butterfield) and Milo Jewett, and by two sisters, Joan and Carol Butterfield. Private services will be held, with Lawrence Toft officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
