Brown, Samuel W., Formerly of Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away Monday, December 27, 2010, at the Brentwood North Healthcare Center in Riverwoods, IL, at the age of 90 years. Sam was born December 14, 1920, in Saginaw, MI, to the late Ward and Blanche (Erickson) Brown. He married Dorothy L. Burk on November 22, 1941; and she predeceased him on August 7, 1995. Sam worked for Consumers Power Company for 38 years retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Utility Workers Union of America (A.F.L.-C.I.O.) and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Following his retirement, he opened his own business, Brown’s Locksmith, as a certified, licensed locksmith. His favorite pastimes were fishing and tinkering in his workshop. He is survived by his children, Sharon K. Dovin of Buffalo Grove, IL and Samuel W. Brown Jr. (Joan)of Gurnee, IL; one sister Barbara Fulks (Howard) of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Kelly Lynne Bone of Whitmore Lake, MI, Sean Robert Brown of Lexington, MA, Christine Therese DeYoung of Lake Bluff, IL, Carolyn Marie Schmidt of Dallas, TX, and Jennifer Anne MacRitchie of Winnetka, IL; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Fritz, Pauline Hopkins, Dorothy Huntoon, Genevieve Miller, and Reinold Brown. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2011, at the New Life Church of the Nazarene, 1278 S. Center Road, where Sam was a member. Rev. Franklin Ward will officiate. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at W.L. Case & Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Road, on Sunday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and, again, at the church on Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to New Life Church of the Nazarene Mission Society.
