Beloved father and grandfather passed away Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Caretel Inns of Bay City. Age 87 years. The son of the late William and Anna (King) Besson, Bill was born December 13, 1922 in Escanaba, Michigan. He married Lorraine S. Salesky on February 23, 1952. She predeceased him February 28, 1997. Bill served in the U.S. Air Force during WW II and the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post #22. He was employed at C&O Railroad for 36 years until his retirement in 1981. Bill was an active member of St. Stephen Catholic Church where he helped setting up for Mass. He was also very involved in the Knights of Columbus Council #4232 and Msgr. Thomas Horton Assembly #2049 where he recently received a pin for his 55 years of commitment to the council. He also relished opportunities to work fish fries, bingo and tootsie roll sales to benefit people with intellectual disabilities. Bill was a member of the Moose Family Center since 1947 where he loved to dance with his wife and friends. Bill was loved by his neighbors for whom he shoveled snow and cut grass until he was forced to slow down at age 83! He continued to share the bounty of his garden and enjoyed making sauerkraut and birthday cakes for everyone he knew. Surviving are two daughters and one son, Barbara Anne Ouvarov, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Mary Lynn Besson, Ludington; William J. Besson Jr. and his wife Darcy, Bay City; two grandsons, William J. Besson III, Canton; Stephen Daniel Besson and his wife Michelle, Homer; one sister, Marie Stachowic, Long Island, New York; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Nancy Salesky, Saginaw; several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by three sisters, Theresa Besson, Jeanne Amond and Joanne Besson. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 29, 2010 at St. Stephen Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. James Heller will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery where military honors will be presented by American Legion Post #22. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Sunday from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. and at St. Stephen Catholic Church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. The Knights of Columbus Council #4232 will pray the Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
