Bell, Francis E. (Chum), Hemlock, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away suddenly Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at his home. Age 84 years. The son of the late Alfred and Junella (Wenzel) Bell, Chum was born June 23, 1925 at the family home in Swan Creek Township. He married Florence Duma, his loving wife of 63 years, on February 15, 1947. She survives him. Chum graduated from St. Charles High School in 1942. He was employed as a mechanic at Hemlock Public Schools, M. Bender & Son Construction, Gateway International Trucks, Krueger Machinery, Beirlein Companies and retired from Bridgeport Equipment in 1992. Chum was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hemlock. He served as a 4-H Leader for many years. Chum was an avid deer hunter near Gwinn in the U.P. He enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Farwell and being with his family and friends. Surviving besides his wife Florence are five sons, three daughters and their spouses, Arthur and Judy Bell, Colorado; Edward Bell, Hemlock; Leonard Bell and Patricia Martini, Freeland; Fred and Lois Bell, Freeland; Merricarol and John Mahoney, Pinconning; Lois and Don Brimm, Evart; Tim and Renee Bell, Ypsilanti; Karen and Mike Mollohan, Hemlock; 26 grandchildren, Bradley, Curtis, Travis, Brandon, Ronda, Chrisey, Dustin, Cheryl, Adam, Amie, Marcy, Marlene, Dana, Matthew, Elizabeth, Spencer, Jaime, Kailin, Kasey, Lyndsay; step-grandchildren, Matthew, Shawn, Brittany, Nathan, Jessica and Sonya; 23 great-grandchildren; six sisters and three brothers, Mary Locke, Gladys (Edward) Fischer, Betty (Jerry) Seaver, Margaret (Jerry) Hauman, Patricia Wesener, Helen (Clair) Luce, Gilbert (Edna), Benjamin (Beth Ann) and Martin (Barb) Bell; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Nancy Bell, Gladys Trumper, Don Orr and Thomas (Gerry) Aspin; many nieces and nephews. Chum was preceded in death by a son, Harold Bell, two great-grandchildren, Katherine and Noah, two sisters, Catherine Aspin and Marvel Orr, three brothers, Alex, Chester (Rose) and Thomas Bell, brothers-in-law, Robert Kushion, William Wesener and Ronald Locke, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frances and Melvin Wright. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hemlock, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit will officiate with burial in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hemlock on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass.
