Baase Sr., Charles F. (Fritz), Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Monday, March 1, 2010 at Covenant Health Care Cooper. Age 88 years. The son of the late Herman and Hazel (Cosgrove) Baase, Charles was born February 4, 1922 in Saginaw, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, a survivor of Merrills Marauders and was a member of American Legion Post #439. Charles married Coilah A. Sawyer, his loving wife of 58 years, on March 15, 1952. She survives him. He was employed at Saginaw Steering Gear until his retirement in 1985. Charles enjoyed the out-of-doors, fishing, hunting, playing cards and caring for his animals but most of all spending time with his family.  Surviving besides his wife Coilah are one daughter and one son, Vickie Harris, Gladwin; Charles Baase Jr. and his wife Catherine, Saginaw; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Johnson, Saginaw; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, William Baase, Saginaw; Robert Baase, Zilwaukee; Mary Clark, Oklahoma;  Hazel Sanburn, Freeland; Almeda (Raymond) McLaren, Foxhome Minnesota; Beatrice (Howard) Cramer, Saginaw; many nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by a son, Robert S. Johnson Jr., a son-in-law, Thomas Harris, one sister and three brothers, Agnes Nacarato, Harry, Louis and David Baase, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Baase.  Honoring Mr. Baase’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 12:00 noon Friday, March 5, 2010 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. James Carlson will officiate. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will receive friends on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the St. John Vianney Catholic Church or the Saginaw County Humane Society.
